CHAK’s Mandate

CHAK’s mandate is to promote universal access to quality healthcare by building capacity of health workers and supporting health facilities to deliver accessible, comprehensive quality health services to the people of Kenya and beyond in accordance with Christian values, professional ethics and national health sector policies. CHAK also engages communities to empower them to seek and access quality health care.

Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) was started in the 1930s as a Hospital’s Committee of the Department of Health of the National Christian Council of Kenya (NCCK). In 1946, it became a legally registered entity known as the Protestant Churches Medical Association (PCMA).
Renamed CHAK in 1982, it expanded its mandate to support the Church’s role in healthcare and healing.
Today, CHAK functions as a technical support organization for member health facilities, focusing on Advocacy, Health Systems Strengthening, Health Programmes, Resource Mobilization, and Capacity Building.
Guided by six-year Strategic Plans, CHAK’s Secretariat offers coordination, training, and networking support, while the member health units focus on service delivery. The organization has grown through a strong culture of learning and collaboration with local and international partners.
