REPRODUCTIVE MATERNAL NEONATAL CHILD AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH (RMNCAH) PROJECTS

The CHAK RMNCAH Bread for the World Project works to:

  1. Improve universal access to Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) and nutrition services through gender-responsive, inclusive, and sustainable healthcare.
  2. Strengthen health systems and scale up access to FP/RMNCAH services through primary healthcare strategies, enhancing maternal and child health outcomes.

Duration: 2023–2026 (3 years)

Coverage: Implemented in 60 CHAK member health units across 15 counties: Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Kakamega, West Pokot, Turkana, Isiolo, Marsabit, Kitui, Narok, Makueni, and Nakuru.

Key Indicators
  • 20% increase in uptake of family planning and antenatal care (ANC) services
  • Improved skilled birth attendance (SBA) at health facilities
  • 80% of new births fully immunized by age one
  • Reduced mother-to-child HIV transmission to below 5%
  • Improved care for pregnant women with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, malaria, and TB
Implementation Strategies Include:

Community Approaches

Train CHVs for household visits, outreach, and follow-up
Form psychosocial groups for pregnant women
Host men’s dialogue sessions
Strengthen referrals and emergency care
Provide health education

Health Facility Approaches

Train health workers on FANC, AYFS, newborn care, IMCI, and PNC Conduct mentorship, supervision, and CMEs
Support quality improvement initiatives
Supply life-saving equipment to facilities
Collaborate with counties for resources, training, and supervision

RMNCAH Training Session

In 2024, CHAK in collaboration with Ecumenical Pharmaceutical Network (EPN) received a three- year grant to implement a maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) project.

The project aims at contributing to the reduction of Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) in Kenya by promoting access to high impact interventions and health products for maternal, neonatal and child health services.

Capacity Building for Quality MNCH Care

Build capacity of health care workers to align practices and interventions for PPH and neonatal care with the national MNCH guidelines to reduce the risk of maternal and neonatal morbidities and mortalities.

Advocacy for MNCH Investment in Faith-Based Health Services

Advocate for investment in high impact MNCH
interventions and products in FBO health services

Improving Access to Essential MNCH Commodities

Accelerate availability of and access to high impact, quality assured MNCH commodities and products in the faith-based health sector in Kenya
